There are countless variations of Pyramid Lake Midges and Chironomids. I have fished literally hundreds of permutatuins- sizes, colors, shapes, flash, beads, etc. It is easy to get lost in self doubt and trying different flies at Pyramid Lake. My goal with this fly was to create a midge pattern that would work all the time, in all weather conditions, and everywhere on the lake. By removing the fly as a variable, it allows me to focus on my presentation, and results in a lot more fish to hand. Using a high density, quality tungsten bead is expensive which is probably why they are comparatively rare on flies for sale. I also use super high quality, competition barbless hooks that are extremely sticky and stand up to a ridiculous amount of abuse.
This fly was designed with a subtle sheen that doesn't spook discriminating Lahontan Cutthroat, but has just enough eye catching color to draw them in and get lots of strikes. I have done all the trial and error with this bug and I promise that it works. Day in and day out, this is the bug that I am counting on more than any other to drop my bobber.
