This Midge pattern is great for low light, stormy, windy or dirty water conditions at Pyramid Lake. These conditions often create the best fishing opportunities, and being able to grab the attention of frenzy feeding fish is crucial. The primarily black body stands out with its solid silhouette, and the copper wire and bead provide subtle flash and contrast to get big lahontan cutthroat really fired up. It’s no secret that the fish in Pyramid Lake have a real weakness for red contrast, which is why I started blending red thread into a black midge. The fish agree, red on black is a fantastic combination. This midge pairs perfectly with the Peliwhopper on a two fly rig and together, they provide a great set of options that is truly hard to beat. As always, this fly uses high a high quality tactical barbless hook and tungsten bead to quickly sink it into the feeding zone and keep it there even in rough weather or with a slow retrieve. I coat them with a slick durable resin that hardens the body to teeth and rocks and gives it a greasy, buggy look.
